Again, here's another one for Brother Bear. It goes along with my explorations of the animals in the land.This drawing was drawn with Prisma Pencil on Clearprint vellum.
This particular image made it to the Making-Of book, but it was reproduced so tiny that it wasn't worth the ink! So, here it is, a little larger so as to see how I figured out the structure of the bears.
This is sweeeeeeeet man. Love the anatomy of the head and body, just amazing man!

Hell yeah! I remember this image in the Art of Book. IMO one of the strongest images in it.

I can totally see your influences in the final film. When Kinai fights the Koda's mom, and she's represented as a monster, your insightful anatomy studies show through. The way fur moves on skin, which slides over flexing muscles. It's magic. And these studies have all of that. Yay for good vis dev!

Jed, Jason, Nathan: I guess all those anatomy classes and figure drawings really paid off here. Not that bears are that similar to people, but all that studying helped to me to draw the muscles in a way that appeared convincing.
Gary: I'm glad you noticed the dangling lip. I found that element was crucial to giving the bears a sense of weight and size.
Per H, Ken and Mark: For me the rhythm of movement is what defines what is an inanimate object, and an organic/animate object. I look for that in my figure drawings and my compositions.
Thanks Anna, the movement between both bears had to work together so that the bears worked as a single unit, even though the action is moving in one's favor.

Shuku, that's interesting that you can hear them roar, especially before you went to a vocal exam. I think your audio senses were already in high gear.
