Hotel Transylvania: coming soon in 2012

Well, Sony has finally started to show some of the artwork related to our next family feature film, Hotel Transylvania! Or, as we commonly refer to it, Hotel T.

This is the movie I've been working on...throughout the various iterations. I started working on a different version of this film right after Surf's Up, it's taken this long to find the right story. As the production designer for this project, I'm looking forward to showing some of the amazing artwork we've been creating -- I'm really proud of my crew.

The castle in this image was designed by Luc Desmarchelier and painted by the very talented Joty Man Lam. The character design for Mavis was done by Annette Marnat .

See you at the CTN Expo this weekend! Look me up in the schedule, I'll be there all three days.

I'm so excited about this film! Thank you so much for the comment on my blog (theluckyorange.com), it made my day! I'm coming by Sony on Thursday, if I don't see you then I'll definitely see you at CTN. I'm already signed up for one of your talks!

Please Don't take this the wrong way, but why do you always upload small hard to see pictures of your work? I wish you would upload bigger pictures like every other blog.

Here's hoping you listen to me. :)

I also hope you guys are saving all of the artwork from all the different versions for another amazing Sony Art Of book. You guys have the best Art of books hands down.

Celeste, I hope to see you at CTN.

Peter, I know what you mean. I can barely squeeze out the time to attend CTN myself, and it's only a few miles away. We're in the middle of production too. We're also going to show some of our work at a panel discussion.

Mauricio, thanks! I hope it's well received.

Anonymous, is that a Greek name? (Just kidding) That's a legitimate question. The reason is because politicians are trying to pass a legislation called the Orphan Works Act. This means if you post a high res version of your work, and someone takes it without asking and sells prints, it's up to you to catch them. Meaning, they can claim your work was not attached to an author, hence it is "orphaned." They post it for a few months at an image hosting site, and if you don't catch it, it's theirs. If you catch them, after the fact, the most damage you can claim is $2,000. dollars...about the cost of commissioning a drawing or design for print. If you want to protect yourself from losing authorship of your work, you'd have to register (for a fee) every drawing you post with one of these image hosting sites. Thanks for the question, I'm sure you weren't the only one thinking it.

And yes, the studio has already asked us to start thinking of the artwork we'd like to see in the making-of book. There's eight years of artwork to sort through!

Oh, by the way, I dropped in a high res drawing a couple posts back on the Fuel Your Illustration post. Enjoy.

Gosh, Moe, I thought this project was long gone. Good to hear they made it and that you got the coveted production designer title. You never mentioned it.
They were working on it when I was there years ago, with those original two directors. I even did some development on it myself when I took a break from cloudy. Congratulations my friend!

I was really looking forward to showing some of this work at CTN, but all the images I had selected were denied clearance. But, a small snippet slipped through, while we were watching the Sony reel, we showed a Dracula transformation test. It's the first official peek anyone has seen of our movie, and the reaction was positive.

I'm a big fan of Anette Marnat's too. Now I'm very curious to see more of that film ..

Hey Moe,
A quick precision: it was actually Joty who painted that version of the castle on one of my drawings.
Cheers.
