Atlantis Escape...
Greetings everyone!
Sorry I've taken so long in posting anything. I got swamped with life stuff. Unfortunately my posting may continue to be a little sporadic for a little while, but I'll try and keep posting when I get a chance.
OK, here we're going back ten years ago when I was doing some work for Disney as a freelancer. The project was Atlantis, and I did several pencil drawings for them as I tried to explore what this world looked like.
There is a great book on the project called Atlantis, The Lost Empire, The Illustrated Script.

Wonderful shapes - just really beautiful!
You're not human are you? I knew it!!!

Hey Marcelo,
I love all those Atlantis drawings of yours!! I'm a sucka for details and the lighting and mood is awesome. Wish I could see them all full size.
At least you post somewhat monthly...I just made my first post in over a year!:O Most the stuff I've been working on I'm not allowed to post and unfortunately I haven't had much time to do my own stuff.....at least not post worthy material.
Hope all is well,
Hans

Your pencil work is some of the best I've seen . . . seriously amazing work!!!!! If you don't mind, what sort of paper do you use for this type of work?

Marcelo, your work is simply beautiful. I have you as a great reference and I hope you do not import if I add the link of your blog to my ...
Amazing your pencils.
Beautiful, dramatic composition!
Impressive! Love the light beaming in!
I believe atlantis was the first disney animated movie that i could not stand and almost did not finish watching, mostly because we (me and g/f) could see the amazing design and animation and background effort that went into it and there there was a really really good story underneath it all even though it was (possibly) horribly directed.
Love the art work and would greatly love to see more from the movie! i might check out that book too! :)
cheers!
goshdamm! i love your work! i just bought the World Of Warcraft art book...and your pieces stand out, such great compositions and painting technique...so awesome!!
What they said! Beautiful, Marcelo. I sympathise with the life stuff getting in the way, it's the same at Casa Bling, I can tell ya!

Beautiful as always, such value control.....love the design of the coral reef in the FG.....is that what it is???
Another excellent design Mr. Vignali! I own the book, but some of the best work never makes it in. So this post is well appreciated.
Hey, thanks for all your wonderful responses to this image.
Joern, that's heck of a compliment! I'm sheepishly flattered.
Dave, thanks. I believe the shapes we create are our signatures.
Mark, you're too funny.
Hans, I wish I could see them too, but they're locked up in some Disney vault somewhere.
Jason, the drawing is Prisma Pencil on vellum. When I draw with graphite, I use ledger paper.
Gracias Pablo, ahora voy por tu blog.
Gilberto, I'm flattered, and it is not a problem.
P.J., I know what you mean. When I was working on the movie, I thought it was going to be spectacular. When I flew in from Utah to see it during the premiere, I was disappointed to see they had lost direction. Part of that was Eisner's fault, as he decided to interject himself in the decision making process from directing, humor and design.
Thanks Andre, I should probably announce that on my blog.
Jo, yeah, life happens! Things may get a little more hectic for me in the very near future again. Thanks for your understanding.
David, coral reef? It's bubble gum!
Baklazhan, hold onto that book, it's a good one.
What great sense of lighting and scale Mo!
Wow! Completely magical! Are there any prints of this available?
Marcelo,
Your work just leaves me speechless. Fantastic layouts!! Thanks for sharing,
Phil
Thanks for posting. Your illustration is amazing! Atlantis is one of my favorite films and the illustrated script is great.
