MAMMOTH Drawing
Here's another drawing I did for Brother Bear. I really enjoyed working on this project, and the people at the Disney Florida studio really treated me well. I worked with Producer Chuck Williams, directors Aaron Blaise, Bob Walker, Robh Ruppel and Bob Stanton; they are all top-drawer in my book. They allowed me the time to explore the animals and the world; I felt as though I really got to sink my teeth into the designs.
I didn't know Armand Serrano then, but he also worked on Brother Bear too.
I drew this one on vellum, but for the blog I went ahead and layered it with a colored background and tinted the linework. However, the drawing is untouched. It is as I drew it seven years ago.

Oh my, I haven't seen these fantastic mammoth icons for a while. I remember admiring Marcelo's drawings of the mammoth and paricularly the fighting bears which stayed posted in our visdev board for the whole time we're working on the film in Florida. These drawings for me go down in history as what the classical Disney animation are all about. Very much admired, my friend.

Thoroughly enjoying this blog, checking it quite often. Keep up the great work. Just wanted to thank you for checking my blog, and for the good advice, always appreciated. I didn't think anybody ever looked there, so i started to neglect it, but i will be sure to keep it updated.

Oh Marcelo these are -lovely-. Always had a fondness for pachyderms and their ilk, and these have such a sense of movement and...dimensional -shape-. They're beautiful.
*WAILS* I missed Surf's Up! By the time I had a free evening they'd stopped running it...I'm so sorry, I still want to see it but I'll have to wait for the DVD now! I chased everyone else to go see it though...

I drew the first sketch on tracing paper, and the second one on vellum, using a Prisma Pencil, stump, and the Staedler Mars plastic erasers.

I remember seeing this up on the wall years ago @DFAS..... and then I was lucky enough to work w/you, receiving nothing but the best in your mentoring of me. This drawing still blows me away. I am also quite lucky getting to work w/Aaron, Bob and Chuck...a great trifecta...
